Museum of the Moving Image
At the Museum of the Moving Image we viewed the demonstration of how specific audio or music affects a scene or shot. We chose a scene to view and then watched it with different music choice juxtapositions. The first music choice was dramatic and threatening. This made the scene seem as if the actor was running away from something and scared of something or someone. We then watched the same scene with a more upbeat music. This made the scene seem more funny and lighthearted. We then watched the original music from the scene. We found that any of the music choices could have worked. Depending on what the director was trying to convey through a scene the music has a big influence on the scenes atmosphere. I did not realize how influential music choice could be on the mood of a scene. Also how easily sounds can tell the viewer what they are supposed to feel. With the move to digital editing it has become more and easy to add music and sound.
